The Department of Classics and Mediterranean Studies and the Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invite applications and nominations for the endowed chair “Foundation for Hellenic Studies—Illinois Chair in Hellenic Studies.” We seek a scholar in the humanities with a research focus on any aspect of Hellenic Studies, broadly understood. Areas of research focus may range from antiquity to the foundation of the modern Greek state to the present. Preference will be given to scholars who demonstrate in their research or teaching diachronic expertise in Greek culture and history. The appointment will reside in the Department of Classics and Mediterranean Studies or the Department of History. Shared appointments between these two units may be possible when appropriate.
Princeton Theological Seminary invites applications for a tenure-track position in the History of Medieval Christianity. The research and publication specialization is open. We invite applications from scholars who work on medieval Christianity’s theological, cultural, and social aspects. Candidates must be prepared to teach an introductory survey course on early and medieval church history. Ability and/or experience in teaching courses on the varieties of medieval Christianity beyond Europe, and on the interactions among Christians, Jews, and Muslims in the middle ages is desirable. A letter of interest and curriculum vitae (including bibliography) should be uploaded to the online application site. The appointment is expected to commence July 1, 2022. The Department of Medieval Studies at Central European University (Vienna) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Medieval Studies. The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher and researcher in the field of Medieval Studies and Cultural Heritage Studies, with the ability to teach subjects and supervise theses at the BA, MA and PhD levels in a broad chronological range from ca. 800 to 1500. Possible research foci of the applicant may include (but are not restricted to) cultural history and the interaction between Western and Central Europe; philology; textual and literary heritage. The department offers an initial contract for 6 years. The contract is renewable and can be turned into a permanent contract after a positive assessment. The ideal starting date is 1 August 2021. The deadline for applications is 20 May 2021.
