Byzantinists of Color Conference Grant
For the 2021 Byzantine Studies Conference in Cleveland (December 9-12), grants will be awarded through the newly established Byzantinists of Color Fund to eligible graduate students and early career contingent scholars* for costs including travel and lodging at the conference hotel. These grants are open to eligible members who will attend the conference as well as to those who are giving papers. Membership is required, and is no-fee for students and early career contingent scholars—sign up at bsana.net.
Please note that these grants cannot be combined with the BSC graduate student and early career contingent scholar travel reimbursements, which will continue to be awarded.
The Byzantinists of Color grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and will include $1,000 to cover flights and lodging, as well as a waiver for registration and all conference fees. Grant recipients are required to lodge in the conference hotel and to attend the all-conference lunch on Saturday.
To apply, eligible graduate students and early career contingent scholars who are members, interested in attending the conference in person, and who do not live in the Cleveland area should email the BSANA Vice President by October 1. Eligible members should include in their application their affiliation, if any, and a postal address; checks will be mailed to successful applicants in October. Grant recipients should email any receipts for reimbursement of qualified expenses beyond the initial $1,000, to the BSANA Vice President no later than December 19.
*Early Career Contingent Scholars designate scholars who have earned their PhD within the past 8 years and who do not hold permanent or tenure-track appointments. This includes scholars serving as adjuncts, post-doctoral fellows, contingent faculty, and those holding other non-tenured academic and non-academic positions.
